Pak, India should promote mutual trade: Pande
Staff Report
LAHORE: Parabhat Pande, the leader of the Indian Communist Party and a member of the Lok Sabha, suggested that both Pakistan and India should promote mutual trade, adding that in the next step this would improve ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Talking to the media on his arrival at the Lahore airport on Saturday night, Pande said that both countries should promote bilateral ties through diplomatic efforts and continue to develop people-to-people contacts between various sections of society. Both sides should improve their relations by utilising the sectors of trade, sports etc, as good ties between the two neighbouring countries were vital for solving mutual problems like poverty and unemployment, he stated.
Replying to a question regarding violation of human rights of minorities in India, Pande said that India was a secular country and “in a big country, problems did exist but they were not very common”. The Indian leader did not comment over the issue of the incident related to the Samjhota Express.
About his visit to Pakistan, Pande said he would attend a conference on food security in Islamabad and would stay in the country for five days. While appreciating the cordiality and hospitality of the people of Pakistan, he added that Pakistan was a second home for him. A number of activists from the Labour Party of Pakistan come to receive him and chanted slogans in support of cordial Indo-Pak relations in the interest of the people of both the countries.
