Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA) today
KARACHI: Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and the Kerbala’s other martyrs is being observed today across the world including Pakistan amid tightened security in the country.
Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah mourning processions will be taken out today in connection with chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his faithful associates, who were laid down their lives in way of Islam’s supremacy in Kerbala.
The mourning will continue till late night today in rural areas and various cities including Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
Extraordinary arrangements have been made for the security of these mourning processions. Also, the main mourning procession in Karachi will be air-monitored.
The arrangements for these processions have been finalized.
Meanwhile, the district coordination officer (DCO), Muhammad Hussain Syed, has said that like on Ashura, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and town administrations have made the best arrangements for Chehlum also.
The main Chehlum procession will be monitored by 152 video surveillance cameras that have been installed at various places, including the Nishtar Park, while the proceedings will be reviewed and watched continuously through the Command and Control Room of the CDGK.
The DCO imparted this information during a visit to the Nishtar Park on Monday. The executive district officer (EDO) municipal services, Masood Alam, and other officers were also present on this occasion.
The DCO reviewed arrangements for Chehlum and directed that all departments and officials should work in the same way they did for Ashura. He also said the surveillance cameras and the command and control centre at the Nishtar Park would continuously be working till the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The EDO municipal services has been appointed focal person for making arrangements for Chehlum and to coordinate with all other organisations.
Public facilitation counters: DCO Muhammad Hussain Syed also took serious notice of the non-functioning of the public facilitation counters on the Ground Floor of the City District Government Complex at the Civic Centre.
The counters were established for providing convenience to the general public in connection with the disposal of their matters/cases pertaining to different Group of Offices/sub-ordinate departments and agencies/organisations of the City District Government.
The DCO directed that all the 43 counters should be made operational by 11:00 hours on the 27th of January, with the availability of an officer of BS-17 of the relevant Group of Offices/Department. The public facilitation counter will work during office hours from 9am upto 4pm.
It has also been decided that strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the duty officer concerned and the head of the department in case of any negligence or absence of the duty officer from the counter.
All EDOs and the heads of departments have been advised to personally inspect the Public Facilitation Counter of their respective offices/departments by January 27 as the DCO will pay a visit to these counters on any time the following day.
