LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief, Nawaz Sharif, has asked the government to implement his party’s 10-point agenda within 45 days or be prepared to go home, a private TV channel reported on Thursday.
In an interview, the PML-N chief warned if the government failed to act on the 10-point national agenda given by his party, it would not stay in power.
“The desired change would be brought about either by mid-term elections or the opposition parties would form a government to implement the said agenda,” Nawaz averred. He said that his 10-point agenda was given in larger national interest.
“The PML-N will announce its future strategy if the government fails to fulfil its promise in 45 days,” the PML-N chief said.
Nawaz recalled that during his premiership, the country’s economy was getting better, even relations with neighbouring countries also improved, but former president Pervez Musharraf toppled his government for nothing. He said that all the circumstances causing poverty, inflation and terrorism in the country, should be focused and there should be an analysis of “our nation’s destruction in the last 10 years”.
The former prime minister accused the federal government of not sharing its economic and foreign strategies and plans with the opposition. He also said that there was no need for imposition of the reformed general sales tax (RGST).
In reply to a question about the current opposition, Nawaz replied that his party was playing the role of opposition in a very effective manner, adding that the PML-N had a detailed policy and strategy towards the role of opposition.
The PML-N had joined the coalition government despite its unwillingness, he maintained, saying that he had a very clear stance pertaining to restoration of the judiciary, for which he had even protested in the shape of a long march. He was confident in saying that “the judiciary has complete command on big scandals” and added that now it could take notice even against President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
