Nawaz dissatisfied with implementation of 10-point agenda
* PML-N chief says president, PM must prioritise implementation of agenda
* Claims he isn’t desirous of premiership
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Friday called on the government to accelerate efforts to implement the 10-point national agenda put forth by his party.
“Members of the consultative committee from the PML-N are not satisfied with the implementation process being adopted by the government,” Nawaz said while addressing the launching ceremony of a book “Mera Quaid” authored by an overseas party worker on his (Nawaz) life and political achievements.
The PML-N chief said the implementation of the agenda should be the top most priority of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani as the government would only benefit from its implementation.
Nawaz said that the 10-point agenda was a programme for the prosperity and progress of Pakistan as well as an antidote to all the ills like energy crisis, corruption and terrorism being faced by it.
He acknowledged the prime minister’s contribution by outrightly rejecting the idea of a political murder and rescuing the PML-N leadership when some elements were bent upon implicating Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif in the murder of Salmaan Taseer by declaring his killing a political murder.
The PML-N chief said he was not desirous of premiership, adding that it would be everything for him if the government implemented the 10-point agenda in letter and spirit. “If the government manages to stop financial leakages, check institutional corruption and adopt austerity measures, it will not need to look for loans from other countries,” he added.
Nawaz further said the PML-N was not part of the government and did not support it. “The Pakistan People’s Party-led (PPP) government is being supported by the same political forces which had voted for the 17th and the 18th amendments,” he added.
The PML-N chief said that his party believed in only one ideology and that was Pakistan’s ideology. We would live and die for Pakistan, he averred.
“I am a grossly misunderstood politician but my stance on the 18th Amendment was vindicated later,” Nawaz said, adding that the PML-N was a staunch supporter of the 18th Amendment but it had reservations on the issue of renaming of the NWFP and the constitution of judicial commission.
The former prime minister urged his party workers to brace themselves for the next elections as the time was approaching to put up efforts for the reconstruction of the country.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, journalists Ataul Haq Qasmi and Irfan Siddiqui, provincial ministers and a large number of party workers attended the ceremony. app
