Balochistan Assembly poses confidence in President Zardari

* MPs, ministers lauds Zardari for his reconciliatory policy

* JUI-F abstains from proceedings as House takes up joint resolution

QUETTA: Legislators of the Balochistan Assembly have posed full confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari by adopting a unanimous resolution on Friday.

After Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan is the third province that has reposed trust in the leadership of President Zardari with a specific reference to his dual offices of Pakistani president and Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman. The BA session started 45 minutes late from its scheduled time with Speaker Aslam Bhootani in the chair.

PPP parliamentary leader in Balochistan Assembly, Mir Sadiq Umrani tabled a resolution jointly moved by Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani, ministers Zamurk Khan Piralzai of the Awami National Party, PPP’s Ismail Gujar, Jaffar Khan Madnokhail of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Abdur Rehman Mengal, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, Mir Ameen Umrani, Habibur Rehman Muhammad Hasni, Jaay Parkash, Eng Basant Lal, Asfandyar Kakar, Tahir Mehmood, Asghar Rind, Asim Kurd Gailo and Saleem Khosa.

The resolution reads that the House poses its trust in the leadership of the president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari who had secured 481 votes from legislators of the National Assembly, Senate and all provincial assemblies. “Zardari as a president and party leader is playing a vital role for the welfare of the masses and creating understanding among them. He is strengthening democracy and resolving the differences between democratic forces through the process of reconciliation,” the resolution says. Some 20 lawmakers were present in the House when the resolution was tabled. All the MPAs and ministers praised the performance and efforts of the president.

Meanwhile, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) deliberately abstained from the proceedings of the Balochistan Assembly on Friday when the House took up a joint resolution to express full confidence in the leadership of the President Zardari. The House unanimously passed the Provincial Employees Group Insurance (Amendment) Law, 2011 moved by Finance Minister Asim Kurd Gailo. Participating in the adjournment motion moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid MPA Jaffar Khan Mandokhail on the target killing of TV journalist Wali Khan Babar, the mover said that killing of Babar had raised new questions over law and order situation in Karachi. He alleged that ethnic mafias were killing innocent people in Karachi. Balochistan Minister for Local Government Eng Zamarak Khan demanded indiscriminate military operation in all parts of Karachi. He said different mafias, including land mafia, drug mafia and extortionists, had posed threats to journalists and common people. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Mir Asad Baloch alleged that 370 decomposed bodies of Baloch youths had been found in Balochistan. He said that the president, prime minister and chief justice of Pakistan should take notice of the Balochistan situation.

The chair and ministers welcomed Federal Minister for Law Babar Awan, who sitting in the guest gallery, was watching the assembly proceedings. Later, the speaker adjourned the session until January 29.
