Creation of economic opportunities tops govt agenda: PM

* Gilani says govt focusing on development of agriculture sector

* Reiterates govt resolve to solve people’s problems

MULTAN: The government development agenda envisaged creation of economic opportunities for the common man, particularly youths, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Saturday.

Talking to public representatives from the Multan Division and surrounding areas at the Circuit House, he said that vocational training and skill development programmes had been initiated. “Technically equipped and trained individuals can prove to be more useful and easily adjustable when opportunities arise,” the PM added.

Gilani said that besides creating economic opportunities in and around the urban areas, the government was also focusing on the development of the agriculture sector.

A number of incentives have been offered to farmers and more facilities are being provided to improve the standard of living of people of rural areas, he said.

The representatives apprised Gilani of the problems of their respective areas, including unemployment.

They said that reconstruction in the flood-hit areas was satisfactory and the farmers were pleased to receive seeds and fertilisers for wheat.

They also requested the PM that the roads from the farm to the markets, particularly in the flood-hit areas should be repaired at the earliest.

Gilani said that the top priority of the government for the current year was to resolve the problems of the common man by providing basic facilities to them, particularly in the under-developed areas of the country.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to address the problems of the masses at grassroots level through better coordination with provincial governments and understanding with political stakeholders.

The prime minister said this while talking to local representatives and notables of the Basti Labar.

The local leaders apprised the PM of the position of various development initiatives, and also highlighted the reasons for delay in some of the schemes.

They appreciated the support given by the government organisations to the flood-hit areas, saying that life had become normal in the areas.

Earlier, Prime Minister Gilani offered condolences to Malik Ghulam Mehboob Labar on the demise of his wife. He offered fateha and prayed to Almighty God to grant the departed soul eternal peace and give courage to the members of bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

MPAs Syed Ahmed Mujtaba Gilani, Malik Ahmed Hassan Dehrr, Malik Aamir Dogar, Aamir Ghani Marral and Syed Nazim Shah, the PM’s Media Coordinator Khawaja Rizwan Aalam, Malik Mohammad Saleem Labar and others were also present at the occasion. app
