System not outdated, needs changes: CJ

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday observed that the system was not outdated but it could be further improved by bringing some changes.

The CJP, while addressing the Islamabad Bar Association lawyers at the Supreme Court building, said that contribution by the bar for the institution of judiciary was vital.

“We will have to start from home and will have to vow to avoid unnecessary adjournments in the cases to assist the Court in dispensation of speedy justice to litigants”, he further said. Talking about the National Judicial Policy, the chief justice said that the policy had been implemented with a view to provide easy access to justice. It was the result of collective efforts by all stakeholders, including the legal fraternity that made it possible to devise a strategy for inexpensive and expeditious disposal of cases, the CJ said.

Encouraging lawyers, he said the legal fraternity had infinite talent, therefore, they could help improve the system so they should make efforts for the purpose.

Earlier, newly-elected IBA President Haroonur Rasheed addressed the audience. He said that the administration of justice needed his lordship’s dynamic leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large.

Islamabad High Court chief justice and District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad were also present at the occasion.
