Doctors’ strike on Dr Baqar’s killing continues

QUETTA: Doctors are observing strike on the second consecutive day on Saturday in all the state-run hospitals of Balochistan to protest the killing of police surgeon Dr Baqar Shah. Dr Baqar Shah was gunned down in Sabzal Road area on Thursday when he was returning home from hospital. All the three major hospitals of Quetta, Bolan Medical College Complex, Sandeman Hospital, and Helper’s Eye Hospital remained closed. Strike was also observed in Khuzdar, Kalat, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Naushki, Panjgur, and all other district headquarters hospitals in Balochistan condemning the killing of Dr Baqar Shah. Healthcare system remained suspended and doctors would attend emergency cases only as a mark of protest to the killing of innocent doctors. Addressing a press conference, DIG (Investigation) Nazir Kurd said that Dr Baqar Shah had been offered security after he had a brawl with some security officials a couple of months ago. He said that the police surgeon never complained about any threats to his life and had declined the offer of protection by police. “Baqar Shah told the police that he is a tribal man and will raise the issue with his tribe if any one tried to harm him,” Kurd said. staff report/app
