Malik wants 5,000 more cops for Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed the interior secretary to move a summary for approval regarding 5,000 additional vacancies to cope with the longstanding requirement of Islamabad Police.
He was chairing a meeting on Monday to review law and order situation in the federal capital. The meeting was attended by Islamabad chief commissioner, Islamabad IGP, NCMC DG and the representatives of Rangers, FC and intelligence agencies.
Malik said that all available security officials with the Islamabad administration should be deployed in the capital territory to control law and order situation. He also directed the Islamabad IGP to make a comprehensive insurance plan for the jawans and other ranks of the police. Malik said that he would soon review and inspect the on ground deployment of FC, police and Rangers in Islamabad.
The minister also directed the IGP to improve the living conditions of the police jawans, and to open a fast-food restaurant for them. He directed medical examination of the jawans from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to check against any communicable disease like hepatitis etc.
Malik approved winter clothing, like overcoat, woolen socks, cap and gloves for the police jawans. He further directed that burning of wood for warming purpose at the police posts in Islamabad be banned forthwith.
Briefing a standing committee chaired by Abdul Qadir Patel on Monday, the interior minister said the work relating to issuance of arms licences had been devolved to provinces after the 18th Amendment in the constitution. The committee directed the ministry to get regularised the pending cases of the licences issued during the period of the former government and for which the required fee had been paid. The committee was also informed that the Interior Ministry had already issued orders for issuance of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to the children whose parentage was not identified and who had been registered with registered orphanages.
While talking to Maldives High Commissioner in Pakistan Aishath Shehnaz Adam, who called on the interior minister on Monday to discuss matters of mutual interests, Malik offered training to police officers of Maldives in Pakistan to enhance their professional capabilities. He said that Pakistan could also provide training to the Maldivian intelligence officials to deal with cyber crimes.
The interior minister said that Maldives was an important member of SAARC countries, and conveyed best wishes for his country on behalf of the government of Pakistan. He invited Maldives’ interior minister to Pakistan and lauded the bilateral cooperation between the interior ministries of the two countries.
Malik also appreciated the efforts of the high commissioner for further promoting bilateral relations between Pakistan and Maldives. Maldivian high commissioner thanked the minister for his offer to impart training to police and intelligence officials in Pakistan and expressed his desire to maintain and further strengthen the bilateral relations. app
