PML-N threatens to oppose trust vote move in NA
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday threatened to oppose any vote of confidence move in the National Assembly.
Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced that his party would block any resolution of the government in the assembly that would fuel confrontation with the other state institutions. He said that any resolution in parliament would be meant the defy the orders of the superior judiciary and to burden parliament with the failures of the government. Nisar objected to the emergency session of the National Assembly and lambasted the government for convening the session to use parliament as a shield in its confrontation with the other state institutions. He hinted at a strong protest in the House over the convening of the session as well as on the current political situation in the country and vowed that his party would never allow the government to use the forum of parliament to hide its failures as well as for achieving its political interests.
“The government has called the session and it should explain why the session has been convened,” Nisar added. He informed reporters that the PML-N, with other opposition parties in parliament, had also agreed on a one-point agenda to deal with present political crisis. Elaborating, Nisar said that that all opposition parties agreed that present political situation was precarious and steps should be taken to defuse it. Secondly, the judgements of the Supreme Court should be implemented in letter and spirit.
Third, all opposition parties agreed that no undemocratic step would be tolerated in the present situation, and lastly, the conditions warrant that fresh free and fair elections should be held as it was the only way out to steer the country out from the current quagmire.
