Haqqani moves memo commission, PBC against Akram Sheikh
By Ali Hassan
ISLAMABAD: Former Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani on Friday filed two different applications before the memogate commissions as well as the Pakistan Bar Counsel (PBC) against Mansoor Ijaz’s counsel Akram Sheikh for defaming him on the electronic media.
Haqqani filed the applications in the judicial commission and PBC for taking disciplinary action against Akram Sheikh, who on January 9 had given false statements against him for damaging his reputation. On Friday, Haqqani rejected the Akram Sheikh’s allegations that Mansoor was facing threats from the email accounts, which was being used by him (Husain Haqqani).
Haqqani stated that such fallacious and fabricated claims carry no weight upon truth but based on mala fide intention and trying to malign him. Mansoor Ijaz’s email address has been published in newspapers as a result of his own and his counsel’s efforts.
He categorically stated that he had not sent such email to Ijaz. He was a law abiding citizen and this exercise was only to unnecessarily invoke his name was irresponsible and amounted to creating false impressions and guilt by association, which did not reflect well on a senior counsel of Sheikh’s stature.
The commission accepted Haqqani application and further proceeding regarding that matter till January 16.
