PM must withdraw remarks against army: Punjab CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has demanded that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani should withdraw his statement against the army instead of submitting explanations. In a statement, the Punjab chief minister said the Pakistan People’s Party was trying to use parliament for its war against institutions, which the PML-N would never allow. He said the ruling group was on the path of self-destruction, as it has indulged in confrontation with the judiciary and the army. He said the statement of the prime minister about the army was part of the campaign of PPP leadership. Shahbaz urged the nation to stand up against the rulers and all those trying to destroy national institutions in the name of survival of democracy. He said dictators had destroyed the country and damaged the good name of the army and its professional capabilities. “As far as the democracy and its future are concerned, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership and its workers have rendered unprecedented sacrifices. But due to the misdeeds of few adventurists, we will not allow anyone to ridicule the Pak Army,” the CM said. inp
