MQM tables bill for new provinces
ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) tabled a bill in the National Assembly proposing the 20th amendment in the Constitution for the creation of new provinces, Geo News reported.
The bill aims at facilitating the creation of new provinces in the Punjab province as well abolition of Article 293(4) of the Constitution.
The allies in government put up no objection to the bill, which was later sent to the standing committee on law.
Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi Tuesday presided the session, which saw the tabling of 12 bills.
MQM’s Waseem Akhtar, Sajid Ahmed, Sohail Mansoor, and Asif Hasnain presented the bill.
Federal minister Khurshid Shah spared the bill of any criticism saying, though, the government had its own take on the bill, we’ll not come in its way, adding let the standing committee decide on it.
The bill tabled by MQM seeks amendment in Articles 239, 106, 51, and 1.
