Kasuri asks government to mediate between Iran, US

staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has said that the government should immediately step in to cool down rising tension between Iran and the United States as clash in the region would be disastrous for Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Talking to the media at his residence, he said that in case the US attacked Iran, the Strait of Hormuz would be closed, oil prices would be increased and there would be a severe financial crisis in the region, which would directly affect Pakistan. He said that elections were nearing in US and political parties were running to get people’s support by exploiting various issues and attack on Iran would be in their benefit. He said that the US had been tightening the noose around Iran, and the government of Pakistan had been inactive in this regard. Obama should not attack Iran for gaining popularity in the elections, he added. Talking on memo issue, he said if it was just a piece of paper then why were the rulers afraid of it and were hindering the working of the judicial commission investigating it. He said that Mansoor Ijaz had been writing against the Pakistan Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the ISI chief himself had gone to the US to clarify the things. “Let the SC commission decide the case,” he added. He said that the rulers were running from pillar to post to save their government and went into clash with the army and judiciary just to prolong their rule. He said that the government was using delaying tactics to implement the Supreme Court decision on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

He said the rulers completely disregarded the NRO verdict while the SC acted smoothly and took two years to deliver a decision. He said that the PPP leaders wanted political martyrdom, adding that the PPP government had lost its credibility and it would not be able to get votes in the general elections due to its bleak performance. He said that the institutions like PIA, Railways and WAPDA were completely destroyed as the government was in status quo. He refused to comment on Pervez Musharraf’s political activities. He said that he always supported the change through elections, adding that he had joined the PTI because Imran Khan had the vision and solid programme to run the system. He said Imran was a ray of hope in the bleak political scenario. He said looters and hoarders were sitting in the assemblies and creating problems for the people who were already suffering due to load shedding of electricity, gas and sky high inflation.
