India and Pakistan to cooperate in science

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani and Indian scientists have agreed to extend technological collaboration between the two countries and benefit from each other’s research findings and experience. A six-member delegation of scientists from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) called on Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) President Prof Dr Attaur Rahman on Tuesday. INSA President Dr Krishan Lal led the Indian side. Dr Rahman briefed the visiting scientists about the ongoing developments in science and technology in Pakistan. The two sides agreed to identify specialised institutions so that scientists in both the countries could collaborate in different fields including research projects; organisation of joint workshops, seminars and conferences and exchange of scientists, professors and students for higher education programmes. “India and Pakistan can benefit from each other’s experience in the domain of science and technology which can lead to greater cooperation in technical fields. This collaboration shall cost fewer resources as both the countries are contiguous and are aware of each other’s cultures and languages,” said Dr Rehman. He termed the visit of Indian scientists “historic”. Dr Krisha Lal also underlined the need for cooperation in science and technology. Dr Rahman later hosted lunch in honour of the Indian scientists. staff report
