All court decisions will be implemented: Gilani

* Says every institution must work within its constitutional ambit
Staff Report
LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday said that the Pakistan People’s Party-led government respected the judiciary and all its decision would be implemented.
Talking to reporters after the 9th convocation of the Lahore College of Women University (LCWU), he said that his appearance before the court reflected that the PPP respected the judiciary and was striving for maintaining equilibrium in all the institutions of the state.
He said that every institution must work within the ambit of the constitution and government had strengthened the state organs by restoring the constitution.
In response to a question regarding the November 28, 2011, NATO attack on the Pakistani border post; Gilani said that the government had taken stern action following the attack. “We got the US forces vacate the Shamsi airbase, boycotted the Bonn Conference and blocked NATO supplies through Pakistani routes,” he said, adding that the joint session of parliament would decide about the resumption of the NATO supplies and the government was not answerable to any other country.
Gilani said that the government did not claim to have resolved the troubles facing the public; but gas shortage would be tackled within next six months and issues including circular debt and power outages would also be resolved. He added that the dictators had claimed that they had arrested inflation and corruption in the country; but they could not do so even after the passage of 10 years in the government. “Now, the dictators say the people are again in their wait, I want to tell the dictators that they will no longer come here,” he said.
He said it is the job of the opposition to criticise the government and the people should let them fulfil their duty. “The opposition is doing its own work and the government will run as per the mandate accorded to it by the people.” He said that the only stable position rests with the Almighty. He said that he was the first prime minister in the history of Pakistan who had served for the longest period.
Earlier, while addressing the convocation, he said, “Yesterday I was talking to Black Coats and today I am talking to Black Gowns.” He added that his participation in the programme was a manifestation of his personal and the democratic government’s commitment to the cause of women empowerment.
He said that Benazir Bhutto was an icon and a role model not only for the Pakistani women but also for women all over the world. He added that investing in female education helped accelerate economic and social development by enhancing human resource, slowing population growth and alleviating poverty.
In today’s world, he said, knowledge has become an engine of growth and socio-economic development. He called upon the educational institutions to focus on producing leaders and professionals of high calibre who set examples in their respective fields of life.
He further said that the government fully realises the importance of education and has taken various steps to enhance not only literacy rate but has also focused on skill development and gainful education.
He said that the devolution of education to the provinces through 18th Constitutional Amendment is the fundamental initiative in this regard.
