$30 for every overseas Pakistani vote: Election Commission
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaurdhry said Tuesday that giving overseas Pakistanis access to vote was a good idea however it would need to assessed if this would affect the electoral process.
The Supreme Court heard Imran Khan’s petition regarding grating overseas Pakistani’s the right to vote.
During proceedings the Joint Secretary of the Election Commission informed the Supreme Court that there were several problems in granting overseas Pakistanis the right of vote, adding that it also needed heavy expenses.
He said that each vote by an overseas Pakistani would cost $30 compared to $2 for every vote cast in Pakistan.
Justice Khilji in his remarks said the fate of country could be changed if this process was carried out correctly.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till Feb 6.
