Haqqani requests commission not to give Ijaz another chance
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, on Monday submitted a petition to the judicial commission, requesting not to give Mansoor Ijaz another opportunity for recording his statement. In the petition, Haqqani stated that Mansoor Ijaz wanted to record his statement before the commission, for which he sought several adjournments through his counsel Akram Sheikh. But Ijaz has not attended any of the commission’s proceedings without a lawful reason, he added. Haqqani pleaded that it is on record that Ijaz, through his counsel, requested the commission for his security in Pakistan and grant of visa without any condition. All his demands are being accepted and even the proceedings’ dates are being fixed on the desire of his lawyer Akram Sheikh, the petition added. Haqqani also stated that Ijaz’s attitude and conduct clearly showed that he is playing with Pakistani people’s sentiments and wasting the commission’s precious time. He requested the commission to refrain from showing more flexibility to Mansoor Ijaz so that the proceedings could be conducted accordingly and completed in time. staff report
