Pakistan wins election for external auditor of UNIDO

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani has been selected as the External Auditor of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) for a third consecutive two-year term.
The 14th Session of UNIDO’s General Conference held in Vienna from November 28 – December 2, 2011, elected Auditor General of Pakistan, Muhammad Akhtar Buland Rana, as External Auditor.
Industries Secretary Aziz Ahmed Bilour led the Pakistani delegation and on behalf of the Government of Pakistan presented the candidature of Muhammad Rana for re-election as the External Auditor of UNIDO. The election took place by acclamation after the withdrawal of Turkey, Spain, Ghana and Ukraine. Pakistan’s candidature had been endorsed by powerful groups such as the G-77, China, the Asian Group and the African Group. The election by consensus reflected the international community’s strong support for Pakistan. It also showed UNIDO membership’s satisfaction with the performance of Pakistan’s auditor general, his professionalism and expertise. Aziz Ahmad Bilour extended his best wishes to Muhammad Rana for winning this honour and making the nation proud.
