ECP starts enrolment of third gender in voter lists
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) From Wednesday started registration of third gender members of the Rawalpindi district.
According to an official of the ECP, as per directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a list of 249 members of the third gender of the district was prepared for voter registration in computerised electoral rolls. He said only 17 members of the third gender came to the office on Wednesday of which only three, who had Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), were enrolled in the Preliminary Electoral Rolls (PERs). He said as many as 14 members of the third gender have been referred to NADRA for getting CNICs. Registered members of the third gender can now contest elections of provincial, national or senate elections.
According to the record submitted to the Supreme Court, there are 80,000 registered members of the third gender in the country. The ECP had summoned the eunuchs of Rawalpindi district on Wednesday at the office of district election commission to come and help register themselves as voters. After filling the forms, the names of the third gender members were immediately enrolled as voters. app
