Rehman Malik hints at setting up judicial commission to probe fake drugs caseISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday hinted at setting up a judicial commission to probe the contaminated drugs case which has claimed the lives of around 104 people in Punjab. Malik said he would discuss the matter with the top leadership and suggest setting up a judicial commission whose task would be to bring the real culprits to justice. He added that he would recommend that a representative of media be included the commission. Malik was talking to media after addressing a report launching ceremony. The report titled “Examining the Dimensions, Scale and Dynamics of the Illegal Economy: A study of Pakistan in the Region” was jointly compiled by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). He said that clear directives have been given to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest those found involved in the poisoned drugs case even if it is the Health Secretary or Medical Superintendent of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). He also criticised the Punjab government for not checking the distribution of substandard medicines. Malik said he thought the Punjab CM, who holds the portfolio of health minister, would resign from the minister’s position after the death of 104 people.
