ISLAMABAD: Khurram Rasool, former media coordinator of the Pakistan Television (PTV), has been remanded to the Federal Investigation Agency’s custody for another four days in a Rs 71 million scandal by the court of a senior civil judge on Monday.
The FIA could not produce any evidence against the accused, but FIA Assistant Director (legal) Khalid Naeem told the court that bank accounts of Khurram Rasool had been traced.
He said that during the preliminary interrogation, it was found that Khurram Rasool had opened a fake account with a bank in the name of TCP, which meant ‘True Concept Partnership’ instead of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.
The court was told that the accused used to swindle people in the name of Trading Corporation of Pakistan through the fake TCP account.
The FIA official said further investigation is under way and more time be given to the FIA for gathering concrete evidence. He said that a letter has been written to the TCP and bank officials to record the statements of the shareholders.
A fraud case had been registered against Khurram Rasool with FIA commercial banking circle for opening a fake account in the name of the TCP.
Earlier a businessman Sohail Rabbani, complainant in the case through his written reply, informed the court that he had given Rs 71 million to Khurram Rasool for getting sugar quota but the deal had never been materialised.
Qausain Faisal, counsel for Khurram Rasool, argued that the FIA could not produce concrete evidence against his client as he had falsely been implicated in the case. He said that his client was innocent and he was willing to cooperate with the FIA.
Talking to Daily Times, Investigation Officer Irfan Burni disclosed that the FIA has seized the property of Khurram Rasool in a bank fraud case. He said the auction date of the property will be announced soon.
Talking to the media after the hearing, Khurram Rashool said that he had already declared his property worth Rs 1.8 billion and he paid his tax regularly, adding that the case registered against him was totally baseless and he faces media and political trial.
He said, “I am ready to face all allegations against me on all forums.”
