OGRA scam case: Tauqeer Sadiq’s passports cancelled
ISLAMABAD: The two passports of former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqeer Sadiq have been cancelled on the directives of Supreme Court, Geo News reported Thursday.
A two-member bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain resumed hearing the OGRA scam case with particular reference to the arrest of Tauqeer Sadiq today.
The court had directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to cancel the passport, issued to Tauqeer Sadiq and ordered the Punjab Police to submit a comprehensive report within a week, explaining as to who were responsible for Tauqeer Sadiq’s escape.
During today’s hearing, the FIA told the bench that Sadiq’s two passports have been cancelled while investigation in the matter is underway. The officials also apprised the court that Tauqeer Sadiq’s details have been provided to the Interpol. They said that the authority cannot issue red notice until he is not declared a proclaimed offender.
Tauqeer Sadiq is accused of corruption amounting to Rs82 billion, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer. The court had also ordered to get permanent arrest warrants of Tauqeer Sadiq from the Interpol.
