No talks with govt to put off march: Qadri
KARACHI: Tehreek Minhajul Quran chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has ruled out any possibility of talks with the government for postponement of his planned long march to Islamabad on January 14. Talking to reporters, he said that he had not closed doors of consultations “however, I cannot sit for conditional talks with the government or for postponement of the long march”. “Whoever wants to talk should come to Lahore... and I will consult with my associates”, he added. Qadri said that he wanted supremacy of the law and constitution in the country. He reiterated that he had given time to rulers until January 10 “otherwise a long march will be launched on January 14”. He repeated his claim that he would not support any unconstitutional step in the country, adding that he did not intend to harm democracy. He also said he was ready to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf for a powerful caretaker government. He said people would reject caretaker government if it is set up prior to the long march. He said that some politicians were suggesting electoral reforms to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) which was futile. The ECP has no right to legislate, he added. Earlier, a delegation of the MQM called on Qadri. The delegation included Babar Ghauri, Raza Haroon, Rauf Siddiqui, Abdul Haseeb Khan and Khuwaja Izharul Hassan. staff report/inp
