PM, Nawaz vow won't let anybody derail democratic process
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif agreed on Friday that people would not allow anybody to derail democratic process in the country, Geo News reported.
The prime minister telephoned Mr Sharif and both leaders discussed the political situation prevailing in the country.
During the talk, Ashraf said political forces had restored democracy in the country after a prolonged struggle, adding that the continuity of the incumbent system was mandatory to strengthen democracy.
Raja Pervez Ashraf assured the former prime minister that general election would be held on time. He said that compatibility amongst all the democratic forces was proof of their political wisdom.
Nawaz Sharif told the prime minister that there had been talks of so-called long-marches while slogans of so-called election had also been raised. But he said the only way to express the people’s wishes was election.
Both the leaders also expressed resolve to hold transparent election.
