MQM petition seeks immunity for Altaf to appear before SC
KARACHI: The MQM has submitted a petition seeking immunity for party chief Altaf Hussain from appearing before the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case.
The petition was submitted at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry by Qazi Khalid Ali and Farogh Nasem. According to the petition Altaf Hussain’s admirers think his life is at risk if he comes to Pakistan and Dr Farooq Sattar wants to appear before the apex court on his (Altaf’s) behalf.
The petition further states that the political leadership of the country has been at risk during the last five years which is evident with the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and Bashir Bilour.
The MQM Chief was issued a show cause notice by the Supreme Court on December 14 for criticism of the judiciary during a telephonic address and ordered to appear in person on January 7.
