The remarks came as a three-judge bench of the apex court resumed hearing the case regarding then non-implementation of its previous orders about law and order in Karachi.

He said the Rangers and police had taken responsibility to abolish no-go areas in the city.

“Have no-go areas been abolished, Is there no individual in police recruited on political grounds, why legislation was not carried out to de-weaponise Karachi…….What are police doing to put an end to sectarian killings in the city,” the CJ remarked.

He said that the court’s December 14 ruling raised query about a surge in targeted killings that was also not responded by the government.

Additional Home Secretary Waseem Ahmed told the court that there was a decrease in extortion in Karachi.
