Army to only provide security to ECP staff during Karachi voters' list verification
RAWALPINDI: The Defence Ministry has stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan will be responsible for verifying voters’ lists in Karachi.
According to the Defence Ministry, army and other forces will only be responsible for providing security to election commission staff. The army, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary will be deployed in Karachi from Wednesday. Forces will remain deployed in five districts of the city until voters’ lists are verified.
Earlier the Supreme Court had directed that the army would assist the ECP during the door to door verification of voters’ lists in Karachi.
