Plea seeks contempt action against Zardari, Raja, Naek
ISLAMABAD: A petition was moved in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking contempt of court proceedings against President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Law Minister Farooq H Naek and Law Secretary Yasmin Abbasey for not issuing notifications for the appointment of two Islamabad High Court’s judges in view of the apex court’s December 21, 2012, order in this regard. Advocate Nadim Ahmad filed the petition through his counsel, Akram Sheikh, under Article 204 of the constitution of Pakistan 1973 read with sections 3 and 4 of the Contempt of Courts Ordinance 2003 & order xxvii of the Supreme Court rules 1980 for wilful and continuous disobedience of the court’s December 21, 2012 order. The Supreme Court had on December 21 directed the authorities concerned to issue notifications of appointment of Justine Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui as a confirmed judge, and Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi as an additional judge of the IHC for six months with effect from the date of expiry of their earlier notifications. staff report
