FIA’s reply sought over ‘harassment’ of Abdul Qadir GilaniStaff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday sought a report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) about the alleged harassment of Abdul Qadir Gilani, the son of former prime minister, in the Hajj scam case.
The court asked FIA Investigating Officer Hussain Asghar to confine himself to the Hajj scam case and avoid indulging in irrelevant tasks.
“If there is any other complaint, the other department should investigate it,” the court said.
The SC also told the officer that it had asked the FIA to probe the BA degree of Zain Sukhaira and not that of Abdul Qadir Gilani in the case.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, also issued a notice to the attorney general of Pakistan on the petition filed by Abdul Qadir Gilani against Hussain Asghar.
The chief justice remarked that Hussain Asghar is a “very good officer” and the case would not be left incomplete.
During the hearing, Hussain Asghar informed the bench that customs documents had confirmed the accusation made by PML-N MNA Imran Ahmed Shah that a Rs 20 million car was given to Abdul Qadir Gilani by Rao Shakeel, the former Hajj director generals (operations).
Hussain Asghar also told the court that the FIA had issued a notice to former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani in the case but he was not cooperating with the agency and the investigation was, therefore, being delayed.
Upon this, the court said that it would look into the matter at the next hearing.
Meanwhile, Hafeez Pirzada, the counsel for Abdul Qadir Gilani, argued that Hussain Asghar is “spoiling the case as the car for his client was imported in 2009 while the court started the case hearing in 2010”.
The lawyer said that he had filed an application against Hussain Asghar in the case.
Abdul Qadir Gilani alleged in the application that the FIA investigation officer was harassing him.
The case was adjourned until January 16.
