Blinding fog freezes Lahore airport, motorway traffic
LAHORE: Severe foggy conditions in Punjab have made it impossible for the Allama Iqbal International Airport to resume operations until visibility was good enough to fly planes, Geo News reported Sunday.
“The airport will not see any take-offs or landings until conditions improved for flying”, authorities said.
Many national and international flights to and from Lahore have been diverted to other cities while many have been cancelled.
The Motorway police have also suspended traffic on (M2) Lahore-Islamabad section of the motorway as the fog has brought the visibility down to zero.
The Sheikhupura-Lahore-Pindi-Bhattian-Faisalabad part of motorway has been closed for traffic until further orders.
The police have strictly advised motorists to switch on fog-lights while driving, travel in convoys or avoid travelling if possible, as part of safety measures as long as the fog was in control.
