Raja withdraws review plea in RPPs case
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has withdrawn his review petition in the Supreme Court against its March 30, 2012, judgement in the rental power projects (RPPs) corruption case.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard several review petitions including that of the incumbent prime minister, federal government and different power companies against the court’s judgement in the RPPs case. During the hearing, counsel for the premier, Wasim Sajjad, told the bench that his client wanted to withdraw his review petition. Accepting the plea, the court disposed of the matter.
It has been learnt that the prime minister has withdrawn his review petition because then he would be defended through the federal government’s review petition in the case. The chief justice clarified that though the review petitions were pending in this matter but they would not stop their proceedings about the implementation of the Supreme Court’s March 30, 2012, in RPPs case. He also said that though money was deposited in the national exchequer but the criminal proceedings would be continued against all the accused, who allegedly committed corruption. The court has also issued notices to the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) on the review petition filed by Kamoky Rental Power Plant. staff report
