John Kerry opposes cutting US aid to Pakistan

WASHINGTON: US Senator John Kerry, who is also a President Obama’s nominee for Secretary of State, has opposed a suggestion of cutting aid to Pakistan.

Kerry said that Pakistan had not been given enough credit for its assistance in the operation against Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.

The US Senator was testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as part of his confirmation hearing. Kerry said American’s were able to cooperate on the ground in Pakistan which was one the reasons they were able to get to Osama bin Laden.

Kerry also noted that Pakistan had lost nearly 6,000 people in the last year in their efforts to combat terrorists. He added that Pakistan had provided logistical support to the US during the war in Afghanistan.
