Govt, Opp unanimous on caretaker setup: Chairman Senate

OKARA: Chairman Senate, Wasim Sajjad, says Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is trying to rival Tehrik Minhaj-ul-Quran’s sit-in by staging a protest in front of Parliament House, Geo News reported.

“They just want to show Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri they are no less,” said he talking to media after here.

Chairman Senate was in Okara to attend Chehlum --a special mourning service marking the completion of 40 days after the demise-- of former member Punjab assembly, Chaudhry Ikram-ul-Haq.

Replying to a question he termed the calls demanding President of Pakistan’s resignation as unlawful.

“Constitutionally, you cannot just ask the president to go home”, Sajjad said.

He sounded categorical when he said elections would be held as scheduled.

“There is an understanding between the government and the opposition over the constitutional procedure of putting a caretaker setup in place. Thus it will be a smooth transition”, said Chairman Senate.
