New province to be named Bahawalpur South Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee on new provinces has recommended “Bahawalpur South Punjab” as name of new province in Punjab.
The commission met on Saturday and finalised recommendations for constitutional amendments for making a new province in south Punjab. The recommendation draft, singed by members, has been sent to the Ministry of Law. As per the recommendations, the name of new province would be “Bahawalpur South Punjab”, having 124 seats for provincial assembly and 59 for National Assembly. A provincial election commission and high court will also be established in the proposed province.
Talking to media, commission member Jamshed Dasti said draft of the bill for new province in south Punjab is being prepared and recommendations have been sent to the Law Ministry. Consensus was reached among the members on the name “Bahalwapur South Punjab”. Its capital would be Bahawalpur. He hoped that PML-N would support the bill on the new province. The commission has decided that Mianwali and Bhakkar districts would also be included in the new province.
