Japan to give $245,833 for healthcare improvement

ISLAMABAD: The government of Japan has decided to extend financial support of $245,833 (Rs 24 million) to two Pakistani NGOs to help improve the quality of maternal health and social welfare services in Faisalabad.

The St Raphael’s Hospital and Tanzeemal Lissan will get $123,000 and $122,833, respectively. The agreement for these two projects was signed between the heads of the two NGOs and Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi Oe in Islamabad. According to the agreement, the grant would assist the maternity hospital and the intellectually challenged children’s institution to expand their facilities and equip them with the essential medical equipments.

It is expected that this assistance will help around 4,700 patients receive improved medical care every year, while nearly 250 intellectually challenged children would benefit from it. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Oe stressed that improving medical and health services, especially for women and children, was one of Japan’s top priorities in Pakistan.

He further expressed his hope that provision of better medical services in the project area would contribute to uplifting the health of the local communities and strengthen friendly relations between the people of Japan and Pakistan.
