PM's assistant advises India against blaming Pakistan for attack

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, Irfan Siddiqui on Saturday advised India against accusing Pakistan of terrorist attack in Pathankot airbase.

Speaking in Geo News program ‘Naya Pakistan’, Siddiqui said India should understand that Pakistan itself had been one of the greatest victims of terrorist attacks on its soil.

He regretted that only after a few terrorist attacks India begins hurling baseless allegations.

Advising India to review its stance, he said the Bhartiya Jannata Party (BJP)-ruled country should create an environment of trust as unfounded allegations only hamper the process of dialogue.

Talking to Geo News host Talat Hussain in his program, the former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Riaz Khokhar said India was trying to tarnish the image of Pakistan and it would use such attacks as reasons to derail talks.

He appreciated Modi's visit to Pakistan but wondered whether the intentions of Indian prime minister have now changed.

It may be noted here that six attackers had entered India's Pathankot airbase yesterday night and killed three personnel of Indian forces. Following the attack, some of the New Delhi politicians, as usual, held Pakistan responsible for attack.

Indian media did not behave differently than the politicians and went a step ahead to level allegations against Pakistan. According to Indian media reports, the leader of proscribed Jesh-e-Muhammad (JeM), Masood Azhar was the mastermind of Pathankot airbase attack.
