By Zeeshan Ghayur

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader, who recently won by-election in NA-154, has said that he will ensure Lodhran gets Rs 2.5 billion uplift package as promised by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif prior to polling.

He said that all those who cast votes for him deserve a share in the PM’s relief package.

After taking the oath in the Lower House, Tareen said, “The 28 years of relentless struggle has led myself to the Lower House and that the re-elections at his constituency proves that earlier in 2013’s general elections massive rigging did take place.” Tareen said the election tribunal, as per the law, was supposed to pass a verdict within 90 days, adding that the judiciary took two-and-a-half year in declaring re-elections at NA 154 Lodhran-I, adding that the verdict was passed after he had participated in 132 judiciary sessions. He lamented that a person with unsound financial background cannot stand firm in his/her stance of rigging for long as it takes years to have a verdict.

Reminding the Lower House, Tareen said that the rigging case for NA-153 is still pending with the judiciary, and is subjected to a stay order since nine months.

He requested the fellow parliamentarians for taking steps to ensure that the improvement in election reforms. Tareen asserted that he won the seat at Lodhran despite the fact that the ‘elites’ of the area were opposing him reminding the fellow parliamentarians that it was in fact the poor who cast votes for him.

“Lodhran is a backward area that has been neglected since 66 years and that the transparent and fair distribution of the PM’s relief package for Lodhran is essential,” he asserted.

“The poor are subjected to taxation every time they make a purchase despite the fact that they have been neglected and deprived of basic facilities, he remarked.

“Without paying heed to the provision of basic facilities of life to the masses, the country cannot progress merely with the construction of roads and bridges. I am an agriculturist since last 40 years and I can say it on record that 2015 has been the worse year for the farmers countrywide,” he regretted.

Lamenting about the role of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Tareen said that the ECP did not conduct free and fair elections and the reason why no rigging took place at Lodhran was because the armed forces were invited for supervising the entire procedure and the people of Lodhran felt safe in their presence.

He claimed that he will take all steps necessary for the development of Lodhran.
