Centre not to ignore Sindh’s point of view: Qaim
Says Karachi operation to continue
LAHORE: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday announced that that the central government would not overlook the Sindh government’s point of view and would confer powers on the province according to the Constitution.
He said that the Karachi operation would continue till the complete eradication of terrorism from the city. The Sindh CM made this announcement during a casual discussion with senior journalists here on Sunday.
Qaim Ali Shah stated that the Sindh government had always cooperated with the Federation and hoped that the Federation would not ignore the provincial government’s point of view.
Shah stated that his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had been extremely promising. He said all the matters were discussed openly during his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “He (the prime minister) has expressed hope for a resolution of all the issues,” he added.
Shah further stated that all the issues would be discussed with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as well, who would soon be visiting the provincial capital. The Sindh chief minister said that powers granted to the Rangers in four matters would be discussed with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan during his visit to Karachi.
The Sindh CM said that Rangers were given exclusive powers and mandate in four cases and the provincial government wanted that the law enforcement agency should conduct action in accordance within these domains. Shah stated that these points would be discussed with Nisar.
Qaim stated that he had seen the news of Islamic State (IS) operatives being arrested from Punjab. He reiterated that effective action should be taken against IS and other terrorists, wherever they might be.
The Sindh CM said terrorism could be tackled in a more effective manner if Sindh and centre acted in harmony.He said the Sindh government was willing to keep the Rangers functioning in the province till the elimination of terrorism.
