Bilawal acknowledges Taseer’s greatness, courage

KARACHI: Former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer sacrificed his life for the protection of weak and marginalised segment of society against the exploitation and misuse of the laws of the land, said Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday.

In his message on the 5th death anniversary of the former Punjab governor, Bilawal said Salmaan Taseer emerged as a monumental character in the history, who lived, struggled and embraced death like a true hero of the nation.

He pointed out that Salmaan Taseer followed the path of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and stood like rock against the forces of darkness, which were bent upon to drag the country to the stone age. These forces of darkness were deliberately created by the dictatorial regimes to trample the nation’s quest for democracy, human rights and equality and prolong usurpation of the power of people, he added.

The PPP chairman reiterated that he shall always stand against the misuse of religion-based laws by individuals or groups and asked the authorities concerned to take up such misuses for action as per the point no 9 of the National Action Plan. He pointed out that so far not a single action has been taken under this key point of the NAP.

He said members and workers of Pakistan People’s Party will never forget Salmaan Taseer. He will continue to be revered in every heart and mind of the patriotic Pakistanis who always wanted and struggled for a Pakistan truly reflecting the vision of the founders of the nation.
