ATC dismisses PAT workers’ pleas in Model Town tragedy case

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday dismissed two applications filed by 42 workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) involved in Model Town tragedy for transfer of the cases and two-times indictment in the incident. ATC-II Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal heard the applications. Earlier, PAT workers counsel Rai Bashir Ahmad arguing before the court submitted that his clients did not have any confidence in the court. He pleaded the court to transfer case proceedings to another court. The counsel further questioning for indictment of the accused twice in Model Town tragedy contended that a set of accused could not be indicted twice in a single incident. However, the prosecution opposed the applications and pleaded the court to dismiss them. The court after hearing detailed arguments of parties dismissed both the applications. The court also indicted two more policemen in first FIR of Model Town tragedy. However, Policemen Babar and Nisar pleaded not guilty. At this, the court adjourning the further hearing till January 11 summoned witnesses.
