Govt likely to take back bulletproof vehicle from former chief judge

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has decided to take back the bulletproof vehicle from former chief justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Ministry for Law and Justice will formally inform the Cabinet Division in this regard soon.
In accordance with the directives of the Islamabad High Court and after approval of then Law secretary and Special Assistant Barrister Zafarullah Khan, bulletproof Mercedes vehicle was provided to Justice Iftikhar after his retirement which was still under his use.
After passage of two years of his retirement, the former chief justice has launched his own political party, Pakistan Justice Democratic Party (PJDP) after which the government has in principal decided to take back the bulletproof vehicle provided to him.
Sources said that decision has been taken keeping in view that fact that more than 266 political parties were registered with the Election Commission and they could also demand for bulletproof vehicles excusing security concerns and the government was not in a position to fulfill their demand.
