Zardari attacks Nawaz over ‘fake’ case against Talpur

KARACHI/DUBAI/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday came down hard on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over registration of a case against his sister Faryal Talpur’s husband. “The fake case against Mir Munawwar Talpur is New Year’s gift by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. I thank him for the first gift of year 2016,” a statement issued by the PPP said. The former president, who has been recently elected as PPPP president after the demise of Makhdoom Amin Faheem, said that Nawaz Sharif has learnt no lessons from the past. “Nobody could get their agenda accomplished against PPP in the past and nor will anybody be able to get it in future,” he said. Case was registered against Dr Asim Hussain in 2015 but nothing could be proven against him, he added. Responding to Zardari’s statement, PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz said that registering cases and releasing people is the job of the relevant departments, not the prime minister. Daniyal Aziz said that PML-N’s opponents blame Nawaz Sharif over Zardari’s recent acquittal in various corruption cases while Zardari also blames him for cases made against him and his aides. He that the prime minister has never tried to influence any government department in the fulfilment of its legal duties. He said registration of cases against people and acquitting them is the job of relevant government machinery.
