PM chairs high-level meeting over security, recent terror act in India
Militants arrested, Jaish’s offices traced and sealed
ISLAMABAD – A high-level meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House here to review the prevailing security situation in Pakistan and the region.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, National Security Adviser Nasir Khan Janjua, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, ISI Director General Rizwan Akhter, Intelligence Bureau director general and other senior civil, military and police officials.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Tariq Fatemi and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were also present in the meeting. As part of commitment to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan and the expressed national resolve not to allow territory to be used for acts of terrorism anywhere, the meeting noted with satisfaction that a considerable progress has been made in the investigations being carried out against terrorist elements reportedly linked to the Pathankot incident.
Based on the initial investigations and the information provided, several individuals belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit have been apprehended, said a press release issued by the Press Information Department. The offices of the militant outfit were also being traced and sealed, it said and added that further investigations were underway.
“Pakistan is considering to send a special investigation team to India in consultation with the Indian government to seek additional information over the recent terror act,” the release said, pointing out spirit of the cooperative approach and in order to carry the (peace) process forward. The meeting reiterated that in line with decision to counter and completely eliminate terrorism, Pakistan would remain engaged with India on this issue.
