General Raheel Sharif vists Heavy Industries Taxila
RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, visited Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on Thursday where he was briefed on the products manufactured for defence and commercial purposes.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS was briefed regarding the Al-Khalid–1 Tank, the manufacturing and rebuild of Armoured Personal Carrier (APC), Security Vehicles Dragoon, Protector and Mohafiz.
The Army Chief also witnessed the production and demonstration of the Al-Khalid–1 Tank.
Speaking on the occasion, General Raheel Sharif appreciated the efforts of HIT in manufacturing international standard defence and safety equipment and support to field formations including those involved in the operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The COAS encouraged efforts of indigenization and commercialization of HIT products. He also appreciated the use of Indigenous Security Vehicle “Mohafiz” and “Protector”. He emphasized the need to maintain highest standards of quality while also ensuring savings for national exchequer through self reliance.
On the occasion, Secretary Ministry of Defence Production was also present.
Earlier upon arrival at HIT, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Syed Wajid Hussain, Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila.
