PM, Army Chief in Tehran on peace mission

TEHRAN: Pakistan’s Middle East peace mission has entered its second phase as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif arrived in Tehran on Tuesday.

After holding talks with Saudi leadership, PM Nawaz and COAS Gen. Raheel arrived here to discuss the peace recommendations with the Iranian leaders to end Saudi-Iran stand off.

The Premier held meetings with Saudi King Salman bin AbdulAziz Al Saud and discussed issues of international and regional importance on Monday.

Pakistani civil and military leaders were warmly received by Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehqan and other higher officials on their arrival.

PM Nawaz will have a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The Iranian minister said that Pakistan was playing a very important role at a critical juncture.

The top Pakistani civilian and military leaders also held a consultative meeting with other accompanying officials on the plane before landing in the Iranian capital.
