PM, army chief hold meeting with Iran's defence minister

TEHRAN - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif holds a meeting with Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan in Tehran.

The prime minister said unity of Muslim Ummah is need of the hour. He also said Pakistan wants peace and stability in the region. The Iranian defence minister termed PM Nawaz’s visit as very important. He expressed the hope that his meeting with Iranian president will be fruitful. He appreciated the role Pakistan is playing for defusing tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif also met Iran’s Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan, said a statement issued from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). In the meeting with the minister, the army chief reiterated that Pakistan takes Iran as a very important neighbouring Muslim country and the people of Pakistan have a great affinity with their Iranian brothers, added the statement.

General Raheel said terrorism is a global threat that can potentially destabilise the region, adding that a coordinated response was needed to deal with the menace. The Iranian defence minister thanked General Raheel and the people of Pakistan for their efforts to bolster regional security.
