Charsadda varsity attackers came from Afghanistan via Torkham: DG ISPR

PESHAWAR: Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt-Gen. Asim Bajwa, while briefing the media on the development on the investigation on Bacha Khan university attack, said the terrorists received 10 telephone calls from their handlers in Afghanistan.

Lt-Gen. Asim Bajwa was briefing the journalists after Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif chaired a special security review meeting at Corps Headquarters Peshawar.

Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said that attackers were being contacted constantly from Afghan cell numbers. Five facilitators of the attack have been arrested, while search for the sixth and his wife and niece is underway, he said.

The Army spokesman said that the terrorists entered Pakistan from Afghanistan through Torkham check-post. He said they crossed the border using public transport and then travelled to Mardan, looking like common men.

He said facilitators Muhammad Riaz Noorullah and Muhammad Adil provided stay to the attackers in a house on Mardan-Charsadda road.

Facilitators Adil and Riaz helped in purchasing weapons from Darra Adam Khel and supplying to Mardan through family ladies, Bajwa said.

The DG ISPR said the main commander, Umar and deputy commander Zakir were controlling the attack from Afghanistan.

DG ISPR said four terrorists and facilitators were part of the Charsadda attack.

Asim Bajwa said, “We need not to be disappointed by terrorist attacks and we will not allow terrorists to succeed in their nefarious designs.”

He said the entire nation should support intelligence agencies and security forces in eliminating terrorists.

The DG ISPR said that the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif talked to Afghan President and Chief Executive and shared evidences with them.

To a question he said following successes of Zarb-e-Azb operation peace has been restored in most of the troubled areas. He, however, said that intelligence based operation is in progress.

More than 20 people including students, a professor and security guards were martyred as terrorists armed with ammunition and bombs stormed Bacha Khan University in Charsadda on January 20.
