Rao Anwar ordered to appear before probing committee
The committee has convened Rao Anwar for further inquiry and he is expected to appear before the probing unit on Monday at 11pm, confirmed DIG Sultan Khawaja.KARACHI: The committee assigned the task to investigate Naqeebullah Mehsud’s alleged encounter has on Sunday ordered former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar to present himself for inquiry.
Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal on Thursday, Inspector General (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged encounter.
Ex-SSP Rao was summoned by the committee but was later sacked from his post after evidences provided by him related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record and alleged links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were deemed ‘baseless’ by the probing unit.
The committee has convened Rao Anwar for further inquiry and he is expected to appear before the probing unit on Monday at 11pm, committee member Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sultan Khawaja confirmed.
Khawaja said that a notice has been sent to the former SSP after the committee received no response from him as “he is neither picking up phone calls, nor is he appearing before the probe body, which is why a written notice had to be sent to him.”
Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
