Main Nankana accused held: PM Imran Khan pledges all security to minorities, seeks report

NANKANA SAHIB: The main culprit in Nankana Sahib incident was arrested on Monday and Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the interior ministry and the Punjab authorities to submit a report regarding the lat week's protest at Sikh community’s holy site.

According to a Geo News report, the premier said incidents like the [protest at] Nankana Sahib were unacceptable under any circumstances. The government would provide complete protection to minorities at any cost, the premier said adding that those involved in the incident did not deserve any leniency. The main culprit accused of orchestrating a demonstration near the Sikh community holy site in Nankana Sahib was arrested late on Sunday, according to a representative of the provincial government. The Focal Person (Digital Media) to Punjab Chief Minister Azhar Mashwani took to the social networking website Twitter to make the arrest public, saying that a First Information Report against the accused had been registered by the local police.

The main culprit, identified as Imran, has been arrested and an FIR number 6/2020 under sections 295A, 290, 291, 341, 506, 148, 149/6, Sound System, 7ATA, had been registered at Nankana City Police Station, said Mashwani on Twitter.

According to the FIR, the main accused delivered a hate speech outside Gurdwara Janamasthan and tried to incite the crowd on Friday.

The accused tried to give his personal issue a religious colour, according to the FIR. Police said the arrested accused had also posted his hate speeches on various mediums of the social media.

Meanwhile, Lahore Commissioner Saif Ali Anjum and Sheikhupura Range RPO Muhammad Farooq Mazhar visited the office of the deputy commissioner and met the members of the local Sikh community on Monday.
